It’s not exactly that the sun doesn’t shine in the winter. It does. It’s just that it’s not out for as long, and also, you’re less likely to be outside yourself, given the colder weather.

But the days are getting warmer now, and the sun is staying out for longer, and the grass on the lawn is getting taller, and the patios at the bars are getting beerier, and well, you get the point. The weather gets nicer, so you spend more time outside. You spend more time outside, so you spend more time in the sun. You spend more time in the sun, you risk getting a nasty sunburn.

Hence, you need some sunscreen. And that’s what this is. It’s some sunscreen. Moreover, it’s water-resistant sunscreen made from botanical ingredients and available in SPF 30, 50, or 70.

And I’ve chosen this framing for a reason, by the way. When I think about sunscreen, I think of going to the beach, or taking a boat out on the lake, or buying a lighthouse and living in it. But I’m often forgetful when I need to be outside for stuff that’s not super fun and exciting, like taking a jog or doing some yard work. And yet, that doesn’t mean the sun isn’t there, beating down on me and destroying my beautiful skin.

But, hold up: did you click that link? Because you should! It’s a lighthouse! THAT YOU CAN BUY AND LIVE IN! (And yes, full disclosure, this is the one posted to the Cheap Old Houses Instagram account; you think I’m spending hours searching real estate in the Chesapeake Bay?)

That’s right: you can live out the dream captured by Robert Eggers in the 2019 classic, The Lighthouse! I haven’t seen it, myself, but I’m pretty sure it’s just about two dudes hanging out in a lighthouse having a chill time being bros. How awesome would that be? I’m ready to move in RIGHT! NOW! But, unfortunately, I think my family would object. So I am forced to toil away on solid ground. And sometimes that ground needs mowing. In the beating sun.

Which brings me back to my initial point: beach or no beach, it’s a good idea to invest in some sunscreen.
